A Throw of Dice- Festival of Arts and Humanities/ Sheffield

A Throw of Dice (1929) dir¬≠ec¬≠ted by Franz Osten and Himansu Rai is a tri¬≠umph of early Bol¬≠ly¬≠wood cinema. Inspired by parts of the Indian sanskrit epic the Mahabharata, this sump¬≠tu¬≠ously filmed tale of love and hazard sees two rival kings vie for the love of one woman over a game of chance.

Shef¬≠field Uni¬≠ver¬≠sity Con¬≠certs and Jazz North present Unfurl: an ensemble whose music expands across con¬≠tin¬≠ents, com¬≠bin¬≠ing Indian ragas, fla¬≠menco and Arabic music with impro¬≠visa¬≠tion to create an ori¬≠gin¬≠al sound ran¬≠ging from the dra¬≠mat¬≠ic to the sub¬≠lime. They are joined by Sit¬≠ar¬≠ist Jas¬≠deep Singh Degun.
