Jadid Ensemble at Sedbergh Music Festival

Arabic, FlaĀmenco and TurkĀish Fusion. Lead by Glenn Sharp Formed by guiĀtarĀist and comĀposer Glenn Sharp, the Jadid Ensemble are a unique group of musiĀcians based in NorthĀwĀest EngĀland, who have a pasĀsion for the music of other nations and culĀtures. Their trainĀing in flaĀmenco, Indian and Arabic musics has given them a wide range of influĀences on which to draw.

ā€˜Jadid ensembleā€™ simply transĀlates as ā€˜the new ensembleā€™, yet the word ā€˜jadidā€™ has been extensĀively applied to Arabic musics which break away from the hisĀtorĀicĀal traĀdiĀtions (or music of the ā€˜qadimā€™). The clasĀsicĀal and jazz backĀgrounds within the group allow for traĀdiĀtionĀal melodĀic styles to be reworked into someĀthing fresh and new.

On June 11, 2012 7:30 pm to 9:10 pm

At St Andrews Church, Sedbergh.
